Did I forget to mention we live in the Arctic?

January 15, 2010 Filed Under: Argo the wonder dog, life, lists, rochester, weather

IMG_0445 Originally uploaded by AlliesAnswers Oh, another week of meaning to blog and not quite getting to it, so here's a pretty picture, and now I'm going to do one of my rundown lists on the events of the past week. :) Last Sunday, J and I grabbed our very underused crampons, and went out to Chimney Bluffs on Lake Ontario to climb around on the ice and pretend to be Arctic explorers. We took tons of pictures on our phones, and if you click on the link above, it should take you to them -- if, you know, you're interested in seeing 60+ pictures of ice. I'll have to steal J's camera … [Read more...]

Our Holiday Card

January 8, 2010 Filed Under: Argo the wonder dog

Kyla (who has a beautifully redesigned blog) mentioned she wanted to see our holiday cards. I have to admit that I didn't finish getting my cards out. So, if you didn't get one, blame the contractor, okay? :) Also, he's only sneezing. … [Read more...]

My 2009 Review – Part 2

December 31, 2009 Filed Under: 2009, books are awesome, Boston kicks ass

16. What song will always remind you of 2009?Duh. . . More Than A Feeling. It's obviously not a song from 2009, but Boston is my main character's favorite band, and that song was my happy dance song all year.17. Compared to this time last year, are you:a) happier or sadder?b) thinner or fatter?c) richer or poorer?a) The Intern wrote this amazing post about how you're pretty much just as happy as you're ever going to be, and I think to some extent that is very true. But I think if the same fun with contractors experience had happened last year, it probably would have reduced me to a big … [Read more...]

My 2009 Review- Part 1

December 31, 2009 Filed Under: 2009, Argo the wonder dog, Boston kicks ass, STAY, STELLA

Du Wax Loolu filled out this questionnaire from Sundry, and I thought it might be a neat thing to do too. I'm going to break it up into a few sections, because I'm a little chatty. And I have the hardest time picking the best or my favorite, so I ended up giving more than one answer for some of the questions.1. What did you do in 2009 that you’d never done before?I sold a book! And honestly, I still can't believe it! And Courtney and I started The Greenists and got some amazing bloggers to join us.2. Did you keep your new year’s resolutions, and will you make more for next year?I can't … [Read more...]

I am a flawed character, and damn proud of it.

December 30, 2009 Filed Under: books are awesome

Before the holiday, @DuttonBooks tweeted, "Why give a book? Because a scented candle never changed anyone's life."Ever since then I've been thinking about the books that have changed my life. Huck Finn was the first real chapter book I ever read. I was so enamored by Of Mice and Men that I read it twice in one sitting. Travels with Charlie. Little Women. Anne of Green Gables. The Basil and Josephine Stories. Invisible Man. Song of the Lark. The Lords of Discipline. The Bean Trees. Where The Heart Is. Bridget Jones. If you're a reader, you have your own list - the books you read under the … [Read more...]

It’s bad when public restrooms feel like the lap of luxury.

December 18, 2009 Filed Under: crabbypants

Last week, Mickey called me out on the fact that I had back to back Wordless Wednesday posts. I meant to post Tuesday, so I could put up a photo on Wednesday without going for three in a row, but, I didn't get to it, so I didn't post at all. How do you like me now, Mickey? :)Here's a rundown of things that have happened since I last used actual sentences in a blog post.Argo had another bump, and I had to take him for a needle biopsy. It turned out to be benign, thank goodness, and our vet is so incredibly awesome about calling the very second the results come in.I've been working on a … [Read more...]
