We don’t have any unicorns either.

Nothing says Thanksgiving like major bathroom renovations, right? The in-laws were ever so brave and kind and came all the way out from Michigan to help us. The Larkin men finished demolishing the bathroom and even got the new tub/shower combo in (and it's beautiful!), and I served up a dinner made by Wegmans (because finishing book edits, coming up with new book ideas, and demo-ing a bathroom really don't lend well to cooking a beautiful Thanksgiving feast and no one makes better mashed potatoes than Wegs does anyway). But the holiday weekend was not without its hiccups. On Wednesday, … [Read more...]

Walking on, Walking on Broken Glass. . .

November 23, 2009 Filed Under: Mrs. Gnome, The Crap Garden, who are the people in your neighborhood

We are saying goodbye the horrendous green monstrosity of a bathroom we have coped with for the past six years. The bathtub, sink, and toilet were all green. But they were all different greens. The sink and tub were slightly different shades of mint chocolate chip ice cream green (minus the chocolate chips) and the toilet was closer to avocado. The painted part of the walls - yet another shade of green, and the floor tiles - oh, you guessed it, several varying shades of green. But then, there was the wall tile. . . oh, the wall tile . . . all around the room, and it was . . . MAUVE. Not … [Read more...]

Things that have happened since I last blogged

November 17, 2009 Filed Under: STAY

The VOA came to pick up all of our donated items.I got overly sentimental about giving away Walter, the duck umbrella I've had since 4th grade, and J and I spent about 45 minutes going through all the packed up boxes to rescue him before the VOA truck came.I had the little red mark on my nose removed with a laser that left a little red mark on my nose.My car wouldn't start and had to be towed and the tow truck guy told me he thought it was done for.Thinking my car was done for made the big repair bill seem not-so-bad.I got a review copy of STAY and spent about 80 gazillion hours staring at it. … [Read more...]

Everything Must Go

October 30, 2009 Filed Under: Declutterthon 2009

Well, everything that isn't useful.I've been on a major mission. I'm getting my manuscript back next week, and it will be my very last chance for changes (wow!). For all other stages of the book, I've worked surrounded by clutter and paperwork and disarray, and it's been really stressful. For years, we've been talking about moving to a bigger house or a house with a better layout or better closet/cabinet space. Finally, the light bulb went on over my head and I realized that if we had less stuff, we wouldn't need a bigger house or better closets. So, I went into Superwoman mode. Over the … [Read more...]

J says it’s pronounced “meem”

October 23, 2009 Filed Under: meme

I haven't done a meme in a really long time, but Sara at Sweet Somethings (who, btw, makes the cutest cake pops you've ever seen) tagged me for this and since my mind is currently occupied with what I've titled Declutterthon 2009, I figured this would be a great time to post this.Rules1. Thank you!

October 22, 2009 Filed Under: STAY

Thank you SO much for all of your kind words about the cover for STAY! You guys are amazing!I really love that Argo is on the cover. It wasn't the original plan, but apparently finding a stock photo of a black German Shepherd isn't super easy. Since we happen to have a black German Shepherd lying around the house, it worked out well. We took over 1,000 pictures of him and sent them off to Dutton so the amazing designer could work her magic and make that cover.Since Argo was such a huge part of writing STAY, having him on the cover just feels perfect. Not only was he the inspiration for … [Read more...]
