A sappy post about my dogs teaching me a life lesson.

May 12, 2011 Filed Under: Argo the wonder dog, STELLA

I tend to be really hard on myself.  It's my default setting.  Since I was diagnosed with ADD at 18, a big part of my journey has been getting to a point where I let go of the qualities I wish I had, and work with what I bring to the table.  When I can do that, oh, life is glorious!  I can laugh at my quirks and make allowances for the things I need to do to be productive and happy.  I don't begrudge myself the time I need to zone out, my weird filing system, or the fact that I feel better about the world when all my clothes are in color order in the closet. But the last two weeks have been … [Read more...]

All sorts of things

October 18, 2010 Filed Under: lists, STELLA

In the summer, it was fun to work from my lawn chair while the dogs frolicked in the yard. Now, when it's 52 degrees and breezy, it's not as much fun. Actually, it's kind of painful in the fingers. But my co-dependant canine friends will not play outside if I'm inside, so I'm still trying to sit outside with them a few times a day. I want to clear out the basement and install astroturf before winter. I'm only sort of joking.I am so excited about this week, I can barely sit still (or maybe that's the shivering). Tomorrow morning (Tuesday, 10/19) I'm going to be on 13-WHAM News This … [Read more...]

Thunderbolts and lightning!

September 8, 2010 Filed Under: STELLA

We had a bit of a storm last night. Flashes of lightning and low rumblings of thunder. Argo has no issue with storms. He'll snore away blissfully during gail force winds and thunder that makes the windows rattle. I've never noticed Stella being particularly afraid of storms either, but something about the one last night did not make her a happy camper. Stella usually sleeps on the floor with her head under the bed, but when I looked down to check on her last night, all I saw was her tail. She had crawled completely under the bed and when we tried to coax her out, we realized she was … [Read more...]

I showered!

July 30, 2010 Filed Under: Argo the wonder dog, Book Tour, STELLA, vlogging

Okay, here's my first attempt at video blogging. It's also only the second time I've ever used iMovie, so it's all a little weird. And, quite frankly, I'm a little weird, but, you know . . . Anyway, I won't do the whole vlogging thing to you all that often, but if you have questions you'd like me to answer via vlog, leave me a comment or send me an e-mail. (BTW - I think I kind of hate the word vlog. It sounds like something you cough up when you're sick.)So, tomorrow (Saturday, July 31st, 2010) I will be at the Syracuse University Bookstore Book Fair from 1-5 PM, along with adoptable … [Read more...]

Ahoy!

May 26, 2010 Filed Under: Argo the wonder dog, STELLA

I'm over at The Divining Wand today, talking about my favorite songs, burp-talking, and Jello-phobia. Check it out!Argo has been chewing at a spot on his leg where he had a cyst. The cyst is totally benign, and it was getting better, but he will not leave it alone (which is not uncommon behavior for German Shepherds - they're a little obsessive sometimes). And since "It won't get better if you keep picking at it," makes little sense to a dog we resorted to putting the e-collar on him.Unfortunately, Argo in an e-collar strikes fear in the heart of Stella even more than cardboard boxes do, so … [Read more...]

“And you’ll always know your neighbor, you’ll always know your pal…”

April 26, 2010 Filed Under: Argo the wonder dog, lists, Mrs. X can suck it, STAY, STELLA

Lately, the days have been going by way too fast. I swear it should be last Wednesday instead of this Monday. And I've been meaning to write to you about oh so many things, so here's one of my big messy list posts.STAY sold in Poland! It's so amazingly cool to think that something I wrote will be published in four languages other than English. I'm not sure I can quite get my head around it. (Mrs. X can suck it!) I have a Facebook page for the book now, and have some event dates up!Shanna convinced me that when I do book events, I should actually, you know, wear decent clothes. AND she … [Read more...]
