My 2009 Review- Part 1

December 31, 2009 Filed Under: 2009, Argo the wonder dog, Boston kicks ass, STAY, STELLA

Du Wax Loolu filled out this questionnaire from Sundry, and I thought it might be a neat thing to do too. I'm going to break it up into a few sections, because I'm a little chatty. And I have the hardest time picking the best or my favorite, so I ended up giving more than one answer for some of the questions.1. What did you do in 2009 that you’d never done before?I sold a book! And honestly, I still can't believe it! And Courtney and I started The Greenists and got some amazing bloggers to join us.2. Did you keep your new year’s resolutions, and will you make more for next year?I can't … [Read more...]

No Dogs Were Harmed in the Making of This Photo

September 11, 2009 Filed Under: Argo the wonder dog, STELLA

Well, I've finally got my author photos. It was a month long fiasco that ended with J taking my pictures (and doing a wonderful job). We wanted a few with Argo in the shot. Argo, however, wanted to chew on sticks, run around the park, and herd other dogs. After trying (and failing) for an hour to get him to sit nicely next to me and look at the camera, he flopped over and let out a huge sigh, like we were frustrating him and not the other way around. So I flopped over on him, joking around, and J snapped a picture. This will not be my author photo, since it kind of looks like I'm … [Read more...]

Good Fences . . .

March 23, 2009 Filed Under: Argo the wonder dog, Mrs. Gnome, STELLA

Well, we got three quotes on a fence, the highest being twice the lowest. We had the same thing happen when we needed a new roof. This is why at least three quotes are a necessity when it comes to hiring someone to do home repairs. I am shocked that the cost can vary so much, especially in this case, when we are talking about the exact same type of fencing. Fortunately, the lowest price was from the person I like the best. He didn't try to talk me into fudging our property lines to put the fence on the drainage easement that's on one side of our property like the other two did. Several … [Read more...]

I AM THE PACK LEADER!

January 23, 2009 Filed Under: Argo the wonder dog, STELLA

This morning, I walked 158 (Stella is 10lbs lighter than we thought she was) pounds of dog. By myself. How, you may ask, can 140 pounds of me, walk 158 pounds of them, especially when dogs are twice as strong per pound? Answer: I. AM. THE. PACK. LEADER. That is all. … [Read more...]

A hair follicle trauma or an insect bite

January 5, 2009 Filed Under: Argo the wonder dog

Argo does not have cancer. The bump was benign and the biopsy report stated that it was a hair follicle trauma or an insect bite. How they aren't able to tell the difference between the two, but still know that it was one or the other and not one of the gazillion other things that could result in a fairly large, tumor-y looking bump is beyond me, but I am not going to waste time splitting hairs over that. It's not cancer, and I am so freaking relieved. It was around this time last year that Argo did have cancer, and we made several trips to the amazing veterinary school/hospital two … [Read more...]

I swear this isn’t a dog blog

December 24, 2008 Filed Under: Argo the wonder dog

But, I am writing about dogs a whole lot, huh? Argo had surgery again yesterday to remove a lump that may or may not be a tumor. It takes 14 days for the biopsy results. I swear, if someone invented a process for getting instant biopsy results, I would pay three times the amount just to avoid the wait, and I'm a pretty frugal person. The other lumps he's had have just been tested with a needle biopsy, but this one just looked wrong and the vet said it would be best to remove it. Basically, if it is something, even if they don't get all of it, getting the big part out could limit the spread … [Read more...]

The Goal for Next Weekend

December 8, 2008 Filed Under: Argo the wonder dog, life, STELLA

I am keeping things simple. My goal for next weekend is that no one from this household will go to any emergency room of any kind. And yes, I am knocking on wood about it. Last weekend I ended up in the ER for my turkey burned hand. This weekend, I went to run errands on Saturday and came home to find J out in the yard with the dogs. He said he'd been worried about Argo because he was acting funny. Argo was sluggish and crabby and kept making a hacking noise, but then when J brought him outside, he acted fairly normal. I decided that Argo just missed me and missed getting individual … [Read more...]

He’s okay!

August 20, 2008 Filed Under: Argo the wonder dog

This afternoon, I decided that I couldn't just sit home and worry while I waited for a phone call that wasn't even supposed to come for another couple of days, so I took Argo to the p-a-r-k for an h-i-k-e (both words need to be spelled around my pup). I was determined not to think about it, and just focus on having fun with my friend. I actually impressed myself with how much I was able to just let go and enjoy my surroundings. I live in my head a lot, and this was a victory for me. We did some trail running, hung out by the creek for a bit and watched turtles swimming just under the water. … [Read more...]
