#DogKarma Winner + Your Favorite Rescues!

October 4, 2011 Filed Under: #DogKarma

It’s been so much fun hearing getting to learn more about you and your pets this week!  The love we have for the animals in our lives is such a beautiful thing and it’s so touching to hear stories of just how much animals mean to us.

Thank you all for entering and sharing and tweeting about rescue dogs and doing everything you do to help dogs in need.

I put all the entries into a big spreadsheet and used a random number generator to pick a winner, and the winner is:

Kay!

Kay tweeted:

#DogKarma This is Agnes,  http://www.petfinder.com/petdetail/21007192. We are going to meet her Tues. to see if she’s a good fit w/our chi, Emma :)

And, behold the cuteness of Agnes!

Congratulations, Kay!  I hope Emma and Agnes get along well and it all works out!
Last Monday,  I asked for your favorite local rescue in comments and I wanted to post the rescues you mentioned here.
  • Pasadena Humane Society & SPCA (CA)
  • Atlanta Humane Society (GA)
  • Southern California German Shepherd Rescue (CA)
  • Lapdog Rescue (NM)
  • Our Pack (CA)
  • Thomas J O’Connor Adoption Center (MA)

  • Lilo’s Promise Animal Rescue (NJ)
  • Forever Paws (MA)
  • Washtenaw County Humane Society (MI)
  • Waggin Tail Rescue and Transport Dogs (NY)
If you’re planning to bring a new dog into your family, I hope you’ll research your local rescues.
I’d also like to give a huge thank you to the generous sponsors of this contest.
  • Dogeared Jewels & Gifts
  • Newman’s Own Organics Dog Food
  • Planet Dog
  • Opie & Dixie

Thank you so much, Allie! I’m so excited about winning and even more excited about meeting Agnes tomorrow. I will let you know how that goes. I’m so hoping she & Emma like each other. That’s my fave pic of her too. Such a sweet face & saved from such an awful life.

They said when she was rescued from the puppy mill, she was missing quite a bit of her hair & she had heartworms. She is healthy & happy now. I’m so thankful that Saving Grace was there for her & the others they rescued from that horrid place.

Update on meeting Agnes. A sweet, sweet girl. We loved her! But, Emma did not :( Emma usually loves all dogs she meets, so don’t know what was up with her animosity towards Agnes.

So sad, but we will be meeting some other rescues & know there is one out there that will fit in our little family. Also, there is another family coming to meet Agnes, so hoping she is about to find her forever home! I also have to brag about the awesomeness of Agnes’ foster mom. It takes such a special person to love these babies & then let them go. This lady is great with Agnes!

Aw! That’s too bad that there wasn’t the right chemistry there! We had that with Argo and a rescue dog we met – only she hated him. It’s great that you had Emma meet her and so wonderful that Agnes is in such a great foster home! I’m sure she’ll find a new family soon! And I’m sure you’ll find a dog who will fall in love with Emma & vice versa. Can’t wait to hear when it all works out!

I took full advantage of the ability to read anything I wanted to while I was in the hallowed halls of a town library. And when I was overwhelmed by classroom life, spending lunch in the school library reading the encyclopedias was my favorite form of self-care. After my first novel came out, a childhood friend sent me a picture (first photo) from my hometown library. I don’t have the right words to explain the pride I feel to know that my own books are on the same shelves that held the books that taught me about storytelling when I was a child. And last year, right before the shutdown, when I popped in to the San Francisco Public Library, I got a little misty-eyed when I found a copy of STAY, with Argo’s beautiful face looking up at me (second photo). It is a powerful thing for our communities to have public libraries and the support of librarians who work so hard to cultivate safe spaces and free access to information and literature. Happy National Library Week to all of you. #nationallibraryweek
