This woman has changed my life and my heart. Today, @cassandra.a.dunn and I shaved an entire hour off our last ascent time when we climbed Mt. Diablo. Over 13 miles and 312 flights, and we’re both getting over colds, but we felt just fine. We didn’t take a summit picture, because as soon as we stopped at our favorite picnic table, we spotted a huge crowd of hikers headed for the trail, so we packed up our snacks and booked it out to get ahead, but then it felt so good to speed walk that we kept up the pace the whole way down. The thing I’m most amazed by is how we’ve built ourselves up over the past few years, turning our hikes into a weekly thing. Two hours every week, at a funny little park where we repeat a loop, up and down hills, talking the whole time. It doesn’t feel like exercise and my heart is so calmly capable now. Today, that whole mountain didn’t feel like exercise either.
