What do you create?
I write family dramas with strong female characters that usually explore what it means to be biracial (i.e. women’s fiction). I’ve also got a middle-grade fantasy series coming out in the spring that puts a twist on the Japanese folk tales my mother told me, told from the POV of a snarky 12-year-old-boy (at last finding a good use for my treasure chest of fart jokes).
Why do you create?
I’ve always written to figure out how I feel about things, and to entertain myself and others. It’s like I can’t process my emotions until I write about them. So I’m a lot happier when I write.
What do you consume?
Movies, plays, TV shows, books, music, art, and a lot of water– it’s awfully hot here.
